Wound care and Pain Management

Wound care and Pain Management

Our skin is the significant organ of the human body that covers the body’s entire external surface. It comprises three layers, the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis. Skin structure is usually made up of an intricate network that serves as the body’s initial barrier against external harms like pathogens, UV light, chemicals, and mechanical injuries. It also regulates the temperature and the amount of water released into the environment. If the skin gets injured, it needs wound care and pain management care from the start till recovery.

The healing of a wound mostly means recovery of the skin. It begins immediately after an injury to the epidermal layer, it is a dynamic process including highly organized cellular, humoral, and molecular mechanisms. It has three overlapping phases: inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. Any disruption leads to abnormal wound healing. However, people should get immediate medical treatment for severe wounds involving visible bleeding or broken bones. Injuries fall into two categories:

  • Open wounds
  • Closed wounds

In a closed wound, tissue damage and bleeding occur under the skin’s surface. Examples of closed wounds include injuries and bruises. Meanwhile, an open-ended impairment involves a break in the skin that leaves the internal tissue exposed; open wounds may result from falls or blunt trauma and surgery. In addition, pain management care is mandatory for every type of wound.
